Exhibition

As you all know I am finalising the images for the Photography Exhibition on Sunday 25th July in the hall from 2-4 pm. This is an extremely long process and the organisation is time consuming. All the Level 4 teachers and teacher assistants are working around the clock to get everything ready. I would like everyone to attend. As your photography teacher I am extremely proud of your work and I am sure that you will be proud of yourselves when you see your art hanging on the walls. Make sure you bring your parents, family and friends along to share your successful journey into Photography.

Proud

Guys, as your photography teacher I want to say that I am very proud of your efforts and dedication. Your creativity has been inspiring and I hope that this course has opened your mind and your eyes to the world of photography and that you continue to use your skills in the future.

Textures

Black and white photography is generally very effective when it comes to photographing textures, however colour photography can also enhance the look of textures and you can produce stunning images.

Black and White

Our black and white photo shoot was great fun! We focussed on textures, patterns and shapes in the absence of colour. The photos show very good contrast and creativity. Well done Grade 6.

Macro

During our Macro and Still-Life photo shoot we produced magnificent photos of all the objects we brought.
The variety was enourmous and the students did a fantastic job. It is obvious that they listened to the instructions well and that they used the techniques to obtain excellent results.
We set up mini studios on our classroom tables and we used black and white paper for our backgrounds. Everyone worked well and the images speak by themselves.

Framed Berries

This picture is worth 10,000 words. Let's see what sort of story you can make up using this picture above. We used bark to frame the berries to make it look like humans trapped inside a cage.

Score!

Our group, Digital took a photo of a ball going into a hoop!

ELIZABETH II in the Sand. (Australia 2005)

This Photograph was taken in the sandpit. I had a five cent coin in my pocket, so I used it as my starting point. It took me ages to prepare the sand for the image! The sand is the "Frame", and the coin is the "Subject." I zoomed in from roughly a metre away. Jessica~Zoom~6M

Nature's Eye

We chose the leaves for the framing because we think it stands out from the background texture and the pink flower. The idea was Eldrick's but the whole group helped put it together.

Learning to See

This week we read an excerpt from the book "Visual Poetry" (Orwig, C. 2010). In this excerpt Orwig talked about how we need to learn to see. Every day when we open our eyes things come slowly into shape, we see these things, totally unaware of how miraculous this is. It is like only half opening our eyes. We look at things but we are not really seeing them. Learning to see is looking at the same things we look everyday from a different perspective and in this way discovering something new.

New Tip

Try this: on your way to school, if you are driven, look out the window at the same things you see everyday and try "seeing" something you never noticed before. Something that can make a good image. If you walk to school is even better...do the same and pretend you take a picture.
NOTE: even better if you take the photo!

Framing

Have you been out with your camera this weekend? I have. I followed my own advice and took photos of Autumn.

Well...the Photography Program is well underway. We are all starting to get excited and we learnt our first technique: Framing.
Using this technique will help you get some excellent results with your images and they will stand out. All you need to do is create a "natural border" around your subject. You can use anything that is available to you. A door frame, an arch, a bush, a bridge, a pole, trees, a hole, arms and people are all good examples, but the list is infinite...all you need is to look outside the box and be creative.
I have been reviewing you work and many of you remember lots of things already. Here is a list of what you said you learnt so far:

1- Light is essential for photography
2- A border improves composition
3- Shadows in the wrong place can ruin a photo
4- Framing gives context to your subject
5- Borders add depth to an image
6- There are many styles of photography
7- Always carry your camera with you
8- You need to look for the right light
9- Don't shake the camera or the photos will be blurry
10- Photography can be used to express feelings
11- Framing should suit the subject of the image

This week 6M and 6W (if the weather helps)  will go out and shoot. We will try to use Framing to make our images look stunning. 6R will be learning how to post comments here and how to download their images onto the computer.

Welcome

Welcome to we-frame, our Photography blog. I hope that this will be a space for students of Photography to share images, thoughts, ideas, comments and tips on how to use Photography as a means of expression, communication and creativity. During the course of the next 10 weeks we will be sharing our learning journey to become better image makers. Some of the things you will find in this blog are tips, learning statements, tasks, quotes, assignments and more. It is my hope that students will use this medium to enhance their learning and to collaborate with each other. Good luck with your Photography and here goes the first tip:

Autumn is a great season for Photography, go out to a street where there's lot of trees and look at the colours of the leaves. They make beautiful subjects. Take your camera and shoot from different angles. Don't wait too long, the leaves won't stay up there forever. Remember: they are falling!
